5 Items That Got Me Through IVF

Trying to find that inner peace.

Let me tell you when it comes to the IVF journey I was always looking for a way to help take the sting out of it, literally. I read a lot of blogs with recommendations on how to ease the shot pain and mental toll. There are a lot of good suggestions out there. Personally, the 5 items on this list helped me out tremendously. I know for me it was more about taking my mind somewhere else than finding a way to numb the shot area. Don't get me wrong the shots hurt and do take a toll on your body physically. I still have areas that are sensitive from the shots. However overall IVF and infertility, are very draining on you mentally. That is why they are now coming up with IVF vacations. I just read an article about this - Need IVF, will travel! Should you consider getting fertility treatment overseas? While on Vacation?. Genius. Anything that could help ease my mental state I am all about. Maybe next round you'll see me in the Bahamas...a girl can dream.

1. IVF Journal

Like I had mentioned in my other posts I felt like I had everything just thrown at me quickly from the start. So many terms and medicines that to this day I still can't even understand. TTC - PCOS - IUI - ICSI - IVF - 50 mg - every 12 hours - every 24 hours - YADA YADA YADA... Feeling overwhelmed was an understatement. I needed something to help keep everything from dosage amounts to what time I took medication or shot all in one place. This book did just that. It not only helped me with the organization of IVF medication overload but also has lots of ideas and suggestions on how to make IVF a little less stressful if that is even possible.


2. Calm App

To this day I still, use this app. In the morning I always try to take some time for myself and do a little morning meditation. Most days it is only 2 minutes, but it helps me set my intentions for the day. Also, the breathe tool is a must. I use this all day every day. Are you ever feeling stressed out? Take a couple of minutes and breathe. Trying to clear my mind, so my body was ready for what IVF was going to throw at me. Just breath. Bonus this app is free. There is a premium version, but for how I use the app the free version works perfectly.

3. Eye Pillow

Like I mentioned above relaxations is vital. Essential for anything in life. If you tense up, you will make the experience that much worse. Especially with shots. Especially with the thick needle progestrone oil shots. I always made sure I never saw that needle and when it was coming. That is where the eye pillow came in. I would put the eye pillow on and breathe in the lavendar. Lavender is known for its soothing properties. Making it perfect for relaxing the mind and body before a shot.

I was fortunate to get a handmade Lavender scented eye pillow gifted to me by Trudy Theisen. However, if you are on the market for an eye pillow here are a couple of options I found. I haven't had the chance to try either, but I can imagine both will do the job.

4. Rose Quartz & Jade

I am new to the healing crystal world. These stones were given to me as a gift too. Once I read that rose quartz and jade are believed to increase one's fertility I knew it was a sign, so every morning when I would meditate I would hold a stone in each hand. I felt like it helped me focus on what I wanted from my body. I would recommend going to Center of I Am in Dubuque to get crystals and learn more about their powers. I also recommend their Chakra classes. This is where I went before our successful aline my chakras.

5. Music

A killer playlist is a must for any occasion; working out, dancing, IVF shots. It may seem ridiculous, but for me, it worked — a lot of times to ease my mind and muscles I would start singing a song. Mind you I would be doing this while laying on my side on our bed with my lavender pillow over my eyes and my pants pulled down to expose the proper target area for Nick. Quite the visual image for you. But for real I do believe that music has the power to make you happy, sad or relaxed — all emotions which I'd experience in an hour with all those hormones in me.

Maybe you are stronger than me and don't need all these items to help, or perhaps you have a better method to cooping. Either way, I would love to hear your stories and how you got through IVF.
